Working in Saltwater

There are many different jobs and careers in our Saltwater department.

Overview

Smolts arrive at our saltwater farms on barges from our hatcheries, where they are grown to harvest size over 18-22 months.

Each morning, workers begin with a water quality check and site inspection. Then, the fish are fed. Feeding regimes depend on the size of the fish and environmental conditions.

Other daily activities include   minor maintenance, sampling for weight, sea lice monitoring , mortality removal and harvesting.

Work Schedule

Workers are required to live on site, with an eight days on and six days off work schedule. During an eight-day shift, farm staff work an average of 10 hours per day, for 80 hours in a two-week period. Floating accommodations on the farm are comfortable, with individual rooms, and shared kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities.

Qualifications

Applicants should be physically capable, have an interest in animal husbandry and enjoy working outdoors. Experience working in a marine environment, and technical and maintenance skills are a definite asset.
