There are many different jobs and careers in Operations.
Operations include: physical operations, repair and maintenance, and shipping and logistics.
Physical operations supports the production sites during site start-up and shut-down, harvest preparation, net changes and more.
Repair and maintenance maintains company equipment and facilities.
Shipping and logistics is responsible for truck and barge loading, yard maintenance and inventory management.
Operations positions are year-round.
Staff include maintenance, boat operators, mechanics, welders, carpenters, shipping and yard-area staff, forklift operators, supervisors and managers.
Cermaq Canada uses a two-level scale for technicians: where you start on the scale depends on your experience, education and training.
Schedules vary with different departments, the time of year and position. Operations technicians may work a standard five-day shift, or may be required to live in camp, working eight days on and six days off. During an eight-day shift, farm staff work an average of 10 hours per day, for 80 hours in a two-week period. Floating accommodations on the farm are comfortable, with individual rooms, and shared kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities.
Applicants should be physically capable, have an interest in animal husbandry and enjoy working outdoors. Experience working in a marine environment, and technical and maintenance skills are a definite asset.
