Oppdrett og fiskehelse
Hvor mye antibiotika brukes ved oppdrett?
We only ever use antibiotics in our operations with a veterinary prescription for medicinal treatment. The use of antibiotics varies due to differences in sanitary challenges between regions. In 2009 Mainstream used in average 21.5 g antibiotics per tonne of salmon produced. The usage was highest in Chile with 38.2 g per tonne produced, whereas our operations in Norway have not had cause to use antibiotics for several years. Our objective is a sanitary situation where use of antibiotics is rarely needed, however we also have a responsibility towards the health and welfare of animals held under our conditions.
Hvordan kan fiskens helse sikres under oppdrett?
As multiple farmers may operate in the same area there is a clear need for collaboration amongst producers to manage environmental impacts and fish health. Such coordination includes the fallowing of fish farm sites and managing fish health treatments. Cermaq is a strong believer in area management and 76 percent of our sites are covered by area management agreements or located in areas where we operate alone.
