How is responsible sourcing ensured?

EWOS has a prequalification system for suppliers where quality, food safety and sustainability factors are addressed. Then, based on a risk assessment analysis, supplier audit plans are implemented and we work with our suppliers for continuous improvement.

EWOS has supported the development of the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation’s (IFFO) Responsible Supply Standard.

Hvor mye fisk trengs for å prodsere en kilo laks?

Salmon farming is an efficient method for providing healthy seafood for a growing population. The correct way to look at this question is to make a calculation based upon the use of marine nutrients; oils and protein. That is, how much marine oils are needed to produce 1 kg salmon oil, and how much marine protein is needed to produce 1 kg salmon protein? If this ratio is below 1, then salmon farming produces more healthy seafood than it uses of marine resources that do not have a good alternative market for human consumption. The actual figures show that today, the ratio is just above one. But recent research by EWOS Innovation shows that, if needed, we have the knowledge to achieve a marine nutrient ratio of below 1.
